ISSUES TREATED
Anything is Possible Therapy works to build motivation, address negative thinking and help identify the issues which may be preventing you from fulfilling your potential, maintaining relationships, pursuing your dreams and goals, or simply putting to bed the negative events of the past so you can feel happier and able to ‘move on’.
Hypnotherapy can be used to treat an endless list of problems, but I have outlined some of the most common issues people come to me about. if your problem is not listed here, get in touch for a chat about how hypnotherapy might be able to help you.
Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are an exaggerated fear response. You may hyperventilate, feel like your chest is going to explore, feel sick or dizzy and have wobbly legs. Attacks can come out of the blue and last for between 5 and 20 minutes.
If panic attacks are becoming more frequent and preventing you from enjoying life, then I can help using hypnotherapy.
Once you are in a deeply relaxed state, I will work with you to guide your attention to coping with specific symptoms and overcoming limiting behaviours.
I will draw awareness to the physical sensations, emotions, and beliefs that are associated with your panic attacks and use words to help you feel more calm and able to cope with these feelings.
I can also provide you with tips on breathing and grounding techniques to help you cope if you are in a situation that might trigger a panic attack.

Sleeplessness and Nightmares

Lack of sleep, caused by insomnia, affects concentration, mood and quality of life. Often people get into the vicious circle of going to bed and then worrying about not being able to get to sleep or getting enough sleep, which keeps them awake!
Using my hypnosis techniques, I can help you learn an easy self-hypnosis ritual that will help you drift off to sleep every night. I will also provide you with some tools you can use to manage worry and stress.
Nightmares can occur at any age, and often involve feeling trapped or being chased. They can be very debilitating and you may wake with your heart pacing, sweating or feeling frightened.
Whether your nightmares began in adulthood or have been recurring since children, I can help you get to the bottom of what is going on in your subconscious mind and help address the underlying worry or fear.
I will also provide you with techniques to deal with stress and anxiety which will help improve your overall wellbeing, as well as help improve your sleep.
Often my clients only need one to three sessions before they are enjoying a full and restful night’s sleep.

Stop Smoking

Giving up smoking is one of the best ways of reducing your chances of serious avoidable illnesses, such as cancer and heart failure, yet the highly addictive nature of smoking means that stopping for good can be hugely challenging.
Even with nicotine replacement patches, you may have found that your willpower alone is not strong enough to combat the urge to light up.
I can help you to quit by giving you the tools to manage your habit to reach for a cigarette in certain situations, or to deal with stress.
Hypnotherapy works by tapping into your subconscious mind and changing your association with cigarettes; it can also help challenge fears about weight gain and withdrawal symptoms.
Light smokers may only need one session to kick the habit and heavier smokers up to three sessions.

Low Self Esteem

Do you lack confidence in a certain area of your life? Perhaps you’re terrified of a job interview, even though you know you’d be good at the job? Maybe you think you’re not good at relationships, or unworthy of love? Perhaps you’re just negative in general and would like some help to feel a bit more optimistic?
How we see ourselves and the world around us starts in our childhood; for example, if our parents were highly critical, we may still feel we are not good enough and always try to please others. If we were forced into uncomfortable situations or worse still, suffered any kind of physical or emotional trauma, we may be carrying around unnecessary shame or guilt which is affecting our self-esteem.
Under hypnosis I will help reprogramme your mind using affirmations. Usually between six to eight sessions are needed to help switch of the negative self-talk and enable you to feel more positive about yourself so that you can achieve your ambitions, have healthier relationships and see life in a more positive light.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

If you’re exposed to a traumatic event (or events) that critically endangers or injures you, you may develop PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). The condition often affects people who have been in the military but also affects people who have been attacked or who have been in or witnessed terrible events and accidents.
It’s normal to feel disturbed after a traumatic event but if you’re reliving the event several weeks afterwards, having flashbacks, nightmares or constantly feeling on edge (hypervigilance), or seeking escape through unhealthy behaviour, such as heavy drinking, then you may be suffering from PTSD.
I can help you overcome the symptoms of PTSD by using hypnosis techniques to take control of the offending memories and process them so that they are less vivid or haunting when replayed back.
I have helped people from all walks of life cope with the trauma they have experienced and learn how to regain a sense of control and normality in their life over just a few sessions.

Chronic Pain

Hypnotherapy is not a cure for chronic pain, but many people find it beneficial as a complementary therapy alongside traditional medical treatment.
For some people the reason for their pain may be obvious, but for others it may be less apparent, and hypnotherapy can help identify and process any psychological causes of pain and the echo of the memory attached.
I can also help you manage any stress or anxiety linked with your pain, disorder or injury.
In my sessions I will enable you to temporary tune out of your conscious mind so that you can deal with any anxieties or fears associated with your pain, which will help relax the nervous system and offer some pain relief.
You will also learn some self-hypnosis techniques to help take you to a pain free place in the comfort of your own home. Just one to three sessions may be all that is needed to help you feel more able to manage your pain effectively.

Stress, anxiety and low mood

Feeling overwhelmed, worried or simply down in the dumps is not uncommon and can be caused by life changing events, such as the ending of a relationship or a sudden illness. Hypnotherapy can help by reframing an experience and helping to give you the tools to deal with uncomfortable emotions.
Hypnotherapy involves putting people into a deeply relaxed, trance-like state – but unlike what you might see in a staged performance you will never feel completely out of control. In this relaxed state you are more able to discuss your feelings and emotions without raising stress and anxiety levels.
If you are suffering from stress, anxiety and low mood then hypnotherapy can help you to gain a better awareness of your feelings and adjust any negative thought patterns that could be worsening your symptoms.
Hypnotherapy can also help address habits that may be worsening your low mood, for example binge drinking, poor eating habits, poor sleeping or smoking.
For patients who are clinically depressed I would always recommend seeking the help of a medical practitioner but am happy to work with you if your doctor agrees that a complementary therapy may be beneficial.

Performance, exam nerves and stage fright

It’s natural to get nervous before performing on stage or in a competition, but if your nerves are getting the better of you and preventing you from performing or competing to the standard you’re capable of, or putting you off altogether, hypnotherapy may be a help.
Performance anxiety is often linked to ‘imposter syndrome’ – not feeling we are really good enough and hypnotherapy can help reveal these deeper psychological blocks and help to put them to bed.
I will choose the right intervention for you depending on the type of performance anxiety you are experiencing, but it is likely to involve hypnosis to unblock negative self-talk, as well as learning various relaxation and visualisation techniques to help promote a positive mindset.
I can also help people to cope with exam nerves and learn some techniques to help make studying less stressful.
Usually, one or two sessions is sufficient to help you combat your anxieties.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders often stem from low self-esteem, depression and anxiety. They affect people of all genders, ages and social backgrounds.
They can also develop as a way for you to try and cope with another underlying problem, such as anxiety, emotional distress, or feeling like you have lost control of an area of your life.
You might be controlling your intake of food and depriving your body of the nutrition it needs, called Anorexia Nervosa, or you might be binging or purging after eating, known as Bulimia Nervosa. Perhaps you are struggling with certain food types, textures or smells which can have an impact on wellbeing.
Some people may feel guilty, ashamed or even struggle to admit that they have an eating disorder, but you can rest assured that I will approach your problem with the utmost care and understanding of eating disorders.
Once I have got to know you, I can use hypnosis to tap into your subconscious in order to understand things that may have happened in the past which may be at the root of your eating disorder. Using the power of suggestion, I can change the wrong habits and thoughts to do with eating disorders.
This involves using neurolinguistic programming (NLP) to help you recall how you dealt with emotions before the disorder and to look at things differently and in a more positive way now.
If your struggles with eating are linked with stress and anxiety, I can provide relaxation techniques to help you manage urges (to binge or purge).
The number of sessions you will need will vary, but generally after 3 – 6 sessions my clients see themselves differently and have stopped being so hard on themselves, have dealt with any deep-seated issues and have a healthier relationship with food.
Phobias

A phobia is an intense fear of a certain situation or object. When you come across the source of your phobia you’re likely to feel anxious, scared and you might also have physical symptoms, such as sweating, palpitations or feeling sick. If phobias are affecting your everyday life then hypnotherapy might be able to help.
During a session I will help you get into a deeply relaxed state, known as a hypnotic trance, where I can tap into your subconscious and begin to understand what the underlying cause of your phobia is, typically some kind of traumatic event.
I will take you back to the memory associated with your phobia and use the power of suggestion to help you reframe your experience and make it less frightening in your mind.
The number of sessions required to treat somebody with a phobia varies from person to person, but you can expect to need between 2 – 3 sessions to help you unlearn the fear response, build up your exposure to the phobia and in time ease the associated anxiety.
Anger Issues

It’s normal to feel anger every now and then, but if you find that you’re regularly angry or struggling to control angry outbursts, then I am here to help.
Hypnotherapy can help get to the root causes of your anger, for example you may be feel insulted, frustrated that somebody does not see things your way or like you’re under attack.
In my sessions I will help you to identity what is causing you to feel so angry and provide ways to help you express those feelings in alternate ways, without getting angry.
I will also help you to understand what is happening in your body when you get angry – the ‘fight or flight’ response which is when we feel a surge of adrenaline in our bodies – and ways to reduce the physical side effects using relaxation techniques.
If your anger is affecting your relationships, putting you or others at risk or simply making you feel unhappy, then you must not feel alone.
